This requires obtaining, reading, and studying outside resources, and numerous hours of study outside of the classroom (as discussed by the instructors).
My Instructors have been VERY upfront in that classroom lecture alone is not sufficient to pass the certification exams. The way the instructor runs the class is that students are expected to read material prior to class. They start with lecture for the first portion of the class. After the lecture, time is allotted for working on labs or self-study while making himself available for individual attention if needed. Never have I experienced this level of individual attention.
Even being successful in traditional college requires the purchase of outside material and resources, and hours of homework and self-study. I don't feel or believe this is an unreasonable expectation.
However……
By the way Mrs. Benson and Mr. Waddell are extremely flexible instructors; able to adapt to student’s experience levels and provide real world examples to reinforce the learning experience.
Valerie is an awesome instructor! She makes the content fun and relevant to each student.
I would highly recommend New Horizons to any company or individual looking to expand their computer knowledge. We have used New Horizons as a training resource for many of our employees. I personally have taken five classes at New Horizons and have always left with a new source of knowledge. New Horizons has many different options for different learning styles and is very flexible to our needs, whether it's for an individual or multiple students. The sales group is very friendly and welcoming, they are not pushy and have never tired to sale me something I don't need.
As of this writing I have completed Comptia A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. They recommend at the beginning of class multiple additional resources both free and for purchase. The recommended experience by the Comptia website for taking the A+ exam is 6 to 12 month’s hands-on experience in the lab or field; Network+ 9 months of networking experience; and Security+ two years of IT administration with security focus. That is 37 to 45 months of experience between the three certifications. Without ANY experience, I was able to obtain these certifications in four months!!!
The staff at New Horizons is the most courteous and helpful I have ever met in a learning institution. The coursework is well-organized and the classes are dynamic, to the point and accessible. There are plenty of opportunities to practice the exercises and the ancillary materials are well-written and provide adequate instruction. New Horizons also provides a variety of online resources which enhance the learning experience and allow the student to work at his/her own pace. The Center itself is an elegant and attractive space set up to accommodate all student needs. I love New Horizons!!
The instruction and material is top notch. The classes are small and completely interactive. The Microsoft Office Suite courses are designed for practical work related situations and are instructed by one of the best teachers I have ever met. The technical classes follow the exam objective closely and they even supply you with tons of additional self study materials to get you ready for the exams.
To elaborate a little on Mr. Shrum’s post.
